How Long Does a Divorce Take in Oklahoma?
Last reviewed August 1, 2026 · General information, not legal advice.
Oklahoma sets minimum waiting periods before a divorce can be finalized. How fast you actually finish depends on your county’s docket and whether you have minor children.
No minor children: about 10 days
When there are no minor children, an Oklahoma divorce generally cannot be finalized until at least 10 days after the Petition is filed (Rule 8, Rules for District Courts of Oklahoma). In practice, an agreed, waiver-based case can often be finished shortly after that window if the court’s calendar allows.
With minor children: usually 90 days
When minor children are involved, there’s generally a 90-day waiting period, and both parents must complete the "Helping Children Cope with Divorce" parenting class before the Decree is entered. A judge may waive the 90 days for good cause.
What speeds it up
Having your spouse sign an Entry of Appearance & Waiver avoids the time and cost of formal service. Completing the parenting class early (if you have children) and bringing a clean, complete packet to the clerk both help you get on the uncontested docket sooner.
